The client was setting up an oil extraction plant in Vietnam. As India does not have a bilateral investment protection agreement with Vietnam, SKP advised the client to set up a holding company in Singapore (which has a bilateral investment protection agreement with Vietnam), which in turn invested in the Vietnam company. This structuring not only resulted in protecting the investment in Vietnam but also gave substantial tax savings.
