CASE STUDY II - Transfer Pricing- not mere compliance but an effective tax planning tool

The client is a sole shipping agent performing marketing liaison and administration functions for one of the largest shipping companies in the world. It was being remunerated in India on a commission basis which resulted in huge profits and high tax incidence in India. SKP reviewed its existing Transfer Pricing policy and recommended a shift to a cost plus model which resulted in a savings of around 60% of the taxes paid under the old model. This was supplemented by assisting in maintenance of appropriate documentation to justify the transfer pricing policy.
